John’s early obsession with printed matter ultimately led him to decoupage, the art of cutting and pasting paper. Since 1989, he and a small studio of artisans in New York City have been creating glass plates, trays, bowls, and other decorative home items with imagery from his vast and ever-expanding collection of 18th and 19th century prints.

From itsy-bitsy to over-the-top, there’s a unique ornament waiting for you: handblown glass parrots fly next to spaceships, S’mores share space with sushi, and nostalgic Christmas baubles dangle beside sea creatures.
Attention foragers! Mushrooms in every shape and size have sprouted in our shops. John’s fondness for fungi appears on decoupage plates, trays, coasters, charms, ceramic designs for Astier de Villatte, and tablecloths and napkins for Summerill and Bishop. Astier de Villatte and John have once again teamed up to create ceramic magic. The new Large Apothicaire Vases, inspired by the shape of a pair of 18th-century Delft apothecary jars from John’s collection, are the latest addition to their long-standing collaboration. This month marks the 30th anniversary of John’s first shop in New York. A few years after starting his one-man decoupage design business in Boston, he moved to New York in the early 1990s. As orders increased, he hired a team of artisans to craft his motifs and opened his first shop in 1995 on 2nd Street in the East Village... a quiet block that would soon become his creative hub.
